Press Release, December 2004

First a bank vault,
Then a police station
now a furniture store

Young entrepreneur family invests their future, transforming the old police station in Greenville into an unique furniture store and brings European culture to Greenville, De.

When Doug Powell and his wife Jenny moved to Delaware they could not find the right furniture for their new home. Jenny Powell who is born Swedish had to turn to New York and Florida to find some of the things she wanted. Tired of that, she and her husband decided to start importing their own furniture. They both love Greenville and when the old “vault/police station” became available they decided to start a furniture store there.

Jenny’s Swedish family: father, mother and sister had many connections with European factories and antique vendors, but first the store had to be rebuilt.

It took five months of renovation to open up the place. One part of the building had been a bank vault. It had 20 inches concrete walls that needed to be penetrated in three different places for entrances, and windows. More than one company backed down from that job because of difficulties with the thick walls.

But now, 5 months and a bunch of dollars later -it’s done. The result: over 6,000 sq ft in two stories fully packed with elegant furniture, antiques, fine reproductions and decorations from Italy, Spain, Portugal, France Sweden and many other countries.

Somethings Unique will create 10 to 20 new job opportunities to the area.
